SSC 60B Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Airbag Replacement SAFETY RECALL NOTICE

2005 – 2006 Model Year Toyota Avalon, 2007 Model Year Camry, 2004 – 2006 Model Year Prius, 2005 Model Year RAV4, 2005 – 2006 Model Year Scion tC, and 2005 – 2006 Model Year Tacoma vehicles.

Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign to replace specific SRS airbag assemblies (Side Airbag, Curtain Side Airbag or Driver Knee Airbag dependent upon the exact VIN) on 73 Toyota vehicles. The 73 vehicles consist of certain 2005 – 2006 Model Year Avalon, 2007 Model Year Camry, 2004 – 2006 Model Year Prius, 2005 Model Year RAV4, 2005 – 2006 Model Year Scion tC, and 2005 – 2006 Model Year Tacoma vehicles. Please refer to the technical instructions to determine the exact VIN and specific airbag assembly which requires replacement.

Due to improper assembly of the airbag inflator, which is incorporated into the SRS airbag assembly (Side Airbag,
Curtain Side Airbag or Driver Knee Airbag), some inflators were produced with an insufficient amount of the heating
agents necessary for proper airbag deployment. In this condition, the expansion force of the gas may be insufficient
to properly inflate the airbag when the SRS system is activated during a collision.

SSC 50S 2005 AND EARLY 2006 MODEL YEAR SCION tC MOONROOF WIND DEFLECTOR LAMINATE INSTALLATION
2005, 2006 model year Scion tC vehicles. Toyota will initiate a Special Service Campaign to apply a protective laminate to the Wind Deflector on certain 2005 and early 2006 model year Scion tC vehicles.

The Scion tC vehicle is equipped with a glass Wind Deflector which tilts upward when the moonroof is opened. In certain 2005 and early 2006 model year Scion tC vehicles, there is a possibility that if impacted by a projectile, such as road debris, while driving with the Wind Deflector in the upward-tilted position at highway speeds, the Wind Deflector may shatter and separate from the frame. In the worst case, pieces of the Wind Deflector glass which have separated from the frame may fall upon the vehicle occupants causing driver distraction and/or injury.

LSC 30J 2004 MY SCION xB SECOND REMOTE FOR KEYLESS ENTRY

AX006-03 SECURITY PASSIVE ARMING MODE
12/3/2003 - 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 model year Toyota ECHO vehicles. 2004 model year Scion xA vehicles. For some Toyota ECHO and Scion xA vehicles, the accessory security system’s passive arming feature cannot be activated by the users. In order to activate the passive arming mode of the accessory security system the security ECU must detect input signals from the vehicle’s door lock position switches in both the driver’s and front passenger’s doors. However, the existing security wire harnesses in these vehicles are connected to only the driver’s door lock position switch. Without receiving any signal from the front passenger’s door lock position switch, the security ECU does not permit activation of passive arming mode. For countermeasure, an add–on wire connection is required between the security ECU and the vehicle’s door lock position switch circuit for the passenger’s door signal. A harness upgrade kit with the add–on wire is now available to upgrade the existing security wire harnesses in the vehicles for passive arming mode activation. Production security kits under new part numbers will have the add–on wire for passive arming function fully incorporated into the alarm wire harness starting from October 2003.

Toyota does NOT recommend replacement of original seat covers* with non-Toyota leather or other seat cover materials on vehicles due to the following:
• Seat covers NOT recommended by Toyota may affect side airbag performance, in
general or in part, during an accident.
• Modifications that negatively affect side airbag performance can result in severe
occupant injuries.
• Seat covers are an integral part of this safety system. Replacing fabric seat covers* with non-Toyota leather or other seat cover materials may compromise he
effectiveness of this safety system.
• The design of the seat is complex, integrating safety and strength with comfort
and luxury.

PD007-04 INITIALIZATION OF TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM (REVISED)
11/3/2004 - 2005 model year Scion tC vehicles. While the vehicle is in motion, the Tire Pressure Warning System (TPWS) monitors the wheel speed signals that are output by the speed sensors for the brake control system. The system uses the resonance frequency method and the relative wheel speed method to detect low tire pressure in one or more of the tires. The resonance frequency method detects a change in the resonance of the tires that is caused by a low tire pressure based on the total value of the wheel speed signals that are output by the four speed sensors. The relative wheel speed method utilizes the changes in the wheel speeds that occur when the actual radius of a tire decreases due to a low tire pressure. These two methods refer to the normal tire pressure as the standard value when initializing.
To operate the Tire Pressure Warning System under normal conditions, the TPWS ECU must be initialized with the tires at the specified tire inflation pressure.
Tire pressure is set high at the assembly plant for transport and storage to prevent tire flat spots. Therefore, after adjusting all the tires to the standard air pressure, please perform initialization of the TPWS ECU at your dealership prior to delivery.

During the manufacturing process, tire characteristics are measured. Tires are then mounted on the vehicle as matched sets to help reduce conditions such as pulling or drifting. If the wheels are replaced or refinished before vehicle delivery, it is important that the tires remain on the vehicle in the same location and in the same direction of rotation.

Please refer to the following procedure to ensure that the original tires stay in the same location on the vehicle.

PG001-06 BATTERY MAINTENANCE FOR IN-STOCK VEHICLES & PRE-DELIVERY
1/26/2006 - All Scion and Toyota models and model years through current.

A battery in a stored vehicle is subject to conditions that can reduce its performance and life. These conditions include storage period, temperature, parasitic drain, and battery load. Because of these factors, battery inspection and maintenance are required in order to ensure proper operation and optimal battery life.

As a matter of policy, Toyota does not provide battery warranty coverage for discharged and/or failed batteries due to lack of maintenance. It is the dealer’s responsibility to maintain the specified State of Charge (SOC) of the vehicle’s battery while in stock and assure proper State of Charge (SOC) at delivery.

To eliminate customer service concerns due to an undercharged battery during the first few weeks of ownership, all dealers should check battery State of Charge (SOC) and recharge, if necessary, just prior to delivery (i.e., within 48 hours of delivery).

The information contained in this TSB supercedes TSB No. PG017–02.
TSB No. PG017–02 is now obsolete and should be discarded.
